About Us

Bailey Smith, CPA

I was lucky enough to grow up in Basalt, CO with Mt. Sopris aka “Momma Sopris”, as the backdrop to my childhood. Located between Glenwood Springs and Aspen, Mt. Sopris is known for her majestic power and is my company’s namesake.

I moved away after high school to attend the University of Denver, where I went “all in” and earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in accounting. I also served as the President of the accounting fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi.

I started my career in public accounting, as an auditor, where I honed my skills and made invaluable connections. From the very beginning, I found that my favorite audits were the ones where I connected with my clients on a personal level and felt like I was adding value. Specifically, when I was working on employee benefit plans, it was rewarding to know that my job was to protect employees and their retirement accounts. This was great experience but ultimately I craved the ability to use my accounting skills to help people, as more than just an auditor.

I left public accounting and after a short time working for friends doing outsourced accounting, they encouraged me to start my own company. That is when Sopris Accounting Solutions was born! Now, I am thrilled to be able to offer my clients a personal touch to their accounting and financial needs.

After spending over 15 years in “the big city” my husband and I decided to get back to our roots of mountain living and moved to Evergreen to start a family. When I am not working, I am chauffeuring our son, reading, practicing bass guitar, and feeding my soul with live music performances. I value quality time with my family and friends and hope to help free others up to do the same!

Fun fact: In 2017, Bailey was part of the team that brought the Levitt Pavillion to Colorado which hosts more than 50 free concerts and community events each season — the equivalent of over $10 million in concert tickets every year. (Source: Levitt Pavillion Denver)
