Our Story
Founder Bailey Smith, CPA grew up in Basalt, CO with the mighty mountain she calls “Mama Sopris” providing the backdrop of the Roaring Fork Valley and her childhood. She made the first big leap of her career and moved to Denver to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Denver.
After graduating, she joined a public accounting firm as an auditor, specializing in employee benefit plan audits. She also assisted with creation of the annual firm trainings and templates to streamline these specialized audits. During her time there, she made countless connections and learned the value of hard work along with the technical accounting skills that make her a trusted advisor today.
Realizing that she wanted to use her accounting skills to help people beyond corporate audits, Bailey took her second leap of faith and left public accounting to start her own company, Sopris Accounting Solutions, LLC — a nod to Mt. Sopris as a symbol of steadfast reliability. Her goal is to help busy business leaders streamline their financial processes so they can focus on the work they do best.
